A New Methodology
A new scientific paradigm that integrates
modern phenomenology with the social,
biological, and physical sciences
-
Peace is elusive in our world today
Peace is attainable with enough effort
and determination. The key to finding
peace is by developing greater levels of
education, understanding, awareness,
and reason across all aspects of life
But conflict is not inevitable
This is true on many levels – including on
the local scale all the way to the global scale
and within our own lives as well
-
Our Inner and Outer Worlds
We all have an outer world –
our social world, in which we
interact with each other
And we also have an inner world –
our conscious world, where our
thoughts, feelings, needs,
and desires originate
-
Our inner and outer worlds may seem
disconnected from each other
But maybe there could be a way to integrate
these worlds through innovations in
science and communication
Such innovations, once fully developed, should
allow us to promote greater societal
understanding and inner awareness, which should
then lead to greater peace
-
We can begin to consider how science can be
expanded to apply to studying first-person conscious
experience. For this we will look to phenomenology,
which is a disciplined approach to examining our
direct, first-person experience. This discipline can help
us better understand our own lives and can also help
us get a window into the inner worlds of other people.
-
Phenomenology needs to be central to the quest to
avoid conflict and to work toward peace because it
already has a proven track record in small-scale
conflict resolution, wherein the participants are
encouraged to frame the problem at hand in a way
that is primarily based around the perceptions and
feelings of each individual in the relationship.
-
This approach shows promise, but a methodology
needs to be formulated that integrates
phenomenology with the other sciences so that it can
be applied to a larger society-wide scale
-
The historical record shows that all forms of
science were indeed the product of
innovation. There have been many changes
and adaptations over the course of the
development of modern science, which we
can call paradigm shifts.
-
Perhaps the solution to our problem is that we
need a new paradigm shift that would produce a
science that could integrate the objective
physical, biological, psychological,
and social sciences with phenomenology
-
Phenomenology will be our guide to increasing inner awareness and
societal understanding.
We will develop a more modern phenomenology that will be used in
conjunction with contemporary physical, biological, and social sciences.
This methodology will be used to address personal inner conflicts and
also large-scale societal conflicts. We intend to use this methodology to
work toward greater peace.
